Course goals:

  • The purpose of this course is to present binocular visual performance as an organized pyramid, in which refined function is built upon foundational Processes.

  • The viewer is free to engage with the visual world with a wide degree of options for the use of his/her binocular apparatus.

  • This course will provide a perspective on how to help your patients come to hone their own visual skills, employing techniques as if they are visual experiments.

  • This course invites each participant to explore their own visual process as a scientist and to learn how they themselves can modify the quality of their visual experience.

  • Among these visual experiments, attendees will be trained on a variety of ways to use the Slotnick Swirl® for visual biofeedback, and as a tool to develop responsibility and control over one’s own visual information processing skills.

  • This course provides the opportunity for each participant to practice the art of facilitating neuroplasticity, honing observers’ skills in visual processing and visual direction over many environments, both real and virtual.

  • Indeed, the “Virtual Reality” of binocular exploration is completely available in the space-time of our “human simulation.”

Many optometrists and vision therapists feel like they need an extensive library of VT techniques that they can draw on to help a patient. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed and under-prepared to deal with the different challenges our patients provide us. Yet, what drives most who offer this specialist vision care is a desire to help our patients get better – if only we can master our role, without feeling like we need to constantly find better activities or learn a new procedure!

Your mission – should you choose to accept it, is to accompany Meredith through her latest program “Vision: Impossible”. This has been designed to help you understand vision problems in a new light. The program will require attendance over a 4 part series, which is designed to be interactive and include active participation:

Session 1 – Theory and Background concepts for working with a variety of vision problems

Session 2 – practical demonstrations and online workshops exploring concepts covered in earlier sessions

Session 3 – practical demonstrations and online workshops exploring concepts covered in earlier sessions

Session 4 – trouble shooting and real case consultations/discussions

Sometimes, it’s not new solutions we need, but rather a new view of the problem! Seeing vision problems in a new light means that you can stop seeing as many roadblocks for patients, understand why they give some of those “weird answers” and see their current performance as the answer to helping you solve their problem!

The practicalities of learning vision therapy theory and techniques can seem, well, impossible! It’s time consuming and when we misunderstand a patient’s problems or their presentation this can lead to more misunderstandings resulting in poorer compliance and drop-outs.  This course grew from the questions Meredith has fielded from her peers and became the solution to their problems. This is about making Vision: Possible.
